PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

How I Got into Kundalini Yoga

Like many people I wasted the early years of my life. Unlike many people, however, I didn't realize the extremes of my situation. I didn't know what was wrong, only that something was lacking. Perhaps by accident, perhaps intentionally, I picked up a few books, listened in on a few conversations about Yoga and meditation. Pretty soon I found myself on the spiritual bandwagon–Yoga magazines and studios, spiritual bookstores, so-called highly evolved friends, etc. I began to investigate the concepts and employ the vocabulary. Initially I was a dabbler, but something me pushed me toward a deeper exploration. A few months into my meditation practice something unexpected happened. I started getting feedback.

Feedback from my Body
My body started changing. Profound psychological and mental changes occurred as well, but the bulk of the transformations occurred in my physical body. Moreover, once the transformations began, my body took over on its own. How does a body take over and effectively transform itself? Very simply, I had aroused a power within myself known as Kundalini, our natural life force, the power that shapes our bodies in the womb.

A Childhood Injury Led me to Kundalini
If it wasn't for a childhood injury that deformed me, I might never have discovered the amazing transformative power of Kundalini. My injury occurred when I was very young, so young I actually suppressed all memory of the accident that caused my injury.
Years later, when I was thirty-four, a stranger handed me a book entitled The Secret of the Golden Flower. It was a serendipitous moment, the beginning of my renewal process. I didn't realize it at the time. In fact, I put the book away for over a year. Sometime later however, I picked it up and began practicing the method of meditation in the text. At first I thought I was wasting my time.

Kundalini Reconditioned my Body
The method in The Secret of the Golden Flower was for real. Not only was it for real, this ancient method turned out to be the safest and most complete Kundalini method I've run across in my thirty years of research. Once activated, Kundalini recognized my deformity and immediately began to restore my body to its original pre-deformity state. This unusual chain of circumstances allowed me grasp the practical healing benefits of Kundalini.

A New Phase of Kundalini Research
The fact that my childhood injury allowed me to discover the amazing transformative power of Kundalini has led me to frame Kundalini in entirely different terms from other practitioners and researchers. I believe that the most important aspect of Kundalini—aside from its amazing curative power—is that Kundalini is the source of an ancient scientific tradition, one I call living empirical science. I did not get this insight from reading books like Wholeness and the Implicate Order or Mysticism and the New Physics, books written by scientists who, for one reason or another, hit a dead end in their interpretation of the universe. Neither was I influenced by Gopi Krishna's dream of having his ideas vetted by well-known material scientists. I came to a realization that Kundalini was a key to acquiring knowledge because the act of raising my own Kundalini actually turned my body into a laboratory.

A Reliable Method of Awakening Kundalini
I realized that the method I used to raise my Kundalini was more related to science that to mysticism, religion or spirituality. Why? Because the method I discovered was capable of producing results with the consistency and predictability of a scientific experiment.

Kundalini as a Scientific Experiment
What happens during the practice of Kundalini yoga/meditation is more akin to science than "spirituality." I can see how readers might have trouble with the concept of Kundalini as a scientific experiment. But that's what it is: an experiment performed in the laboratory of the human body. Moreover RM,my meditation method, produces consistent results across a broad range of subjects. And that's what science is about: reliability and consistency under controlled conditions. Activating Kundalini is really a kind of empirical science experiment whose purpose is to recondition the body and restore individual health.

What about Higher Consciousness?
Whether you read about, talk to someone about, or experience meditation yourself, the one constant in the many descriptions of the higher consciousness experience is subjectivity. That's not to say we should ignore the realm of higher consciousness just because descriptions vary subjectively. But subjectivity doea cause problems. Many people are turned off meditation because they believe higher consciousness is unattainable, or, at the very least, an activity incapable of producing tangible results. Well, it's a pity because there is a great “spiritual” thirst at large today. That's why we need a method that produces tangible results, so we can determine whether results can be duplicated across a broad range of subjects, in a standardized, consistent manner. That's why we need to explore the therapeutic healing qualities of Kundalini. If the positive effects of Kundalini on morphology and malformation can be corroborated–both during the activation and the later transformative stages–we have the beginnings of a scientific methodology. In fact,
Deciphering the Golden Flower One Secret at a Time is a case study in the development of such a methodology.

“All of my ambitions, all of my desires, truly my only aim, is to leave a legacy of authentic material about the transcendent plane of consciousness, so that posterity can lay the foundation of a new science.” ~Gopi Krishna.
