RESTORATIVE MEDITATION (RM)
The Fortuitous Rediscovery of an Ancient Method
Years ago, a stranger handed me a book called, The Secret of the Golden Flower. Since I was not a scholar, at first I had trouble understanding this book. Although it was about meditation, I wondered if such an ancient text could apply in the modern world. Were its precepts still valid? Only after practicing it did I find the answer. Along the way there were lots of twists and turns, false starts and missteps. Nevertheless, I persisted. As a result of my practice, my body has been wholly reconditioned, my health restored. Moreover, the meditation I practiced corrected a childhood deformity. Later on, I found out this healing miracle was due to a secret breath control technique, the application of which, led to the permanent awakening of my Kundalini. Once awakened, my Kundalini sought out and corrected any and all structural imperfections. These discoveries are described in my book, Deciphering the Golden Flower One Secret at a Time.
RM Assures a Predictable Outcome
Deciphering this arcane text and condensing its secrets into a viable method of meditation took time, over thirty years, in fact. Now, I have personally verified the effectiveness of the system and its healing capabilities. It's time to reveal the ancient wisdom of the Golden Flower to the world. I've modernized it into a seven-step method I call Restorative Meditation (RM). |
|
When people ask me what RM is about, I reply, it's more than Kundalini, it's a self-study course in empirical science, an approach to living anyone can apply. It makes healing bodily imperfections and restoring overall health the primary goals. Here's how it works: |
| 1. |
Sit in Lotus position. |
| 2. |
Drop a plumb-line, that is find your center as described on pages 34-35 in The Secret of the Golden Flowerthe bit about the tip of the nose. |
| 3. |
Block out the 10,000 things by counting your breath in a regular 4/4 cadence. Inhale 4 counts, hold 4, exhale 4, hold 4 counts. Start over. Instead of trying to form a Lotus Petal in perfect detail or contemplate Compassion, I advise counting. Why? Because it occupies your mind just enough to forestall the 10,000 things. At the same time, it doesn't require you to attempt something out of reachlike mystical contemplation. Little by little, the counting will fall away of its own accord and your mind will be still. |
| 4. |
Do this regularly each morning, preferably before eating. |
| 5. |
When you notice air current movement in the lower belly as you inhale (about 100 days in), reverse your breath (the backward-flowing method). |
| 6. |
In a few days, you'll be on autopilot. That is, you won't be able to change the direction of your breath back again. |
| 7. |
Wait for further orders. The Life Force (Kundalini) has taken over. The conscious mind is no longer in charge. The Life Force created you; it won't let you get in trouble if you listen to it. Not that the Mind won't try to seduce you into doing things the old, familiar way. It will. Just remember who's in charge, sit back, and wait for further orders. They will come! Not out of the burning bush, but from your body. It's the body you should be listening to. |
How is RM different?
It's based on the 'backward-flowing method' an ancient breath control technique that entails reversing the direction of the breath at a certain time during the meditation processabout one hundred days in. The 'backward-flowing method' brings an element of standardization to the process, ensuring a reliable outcome. |
That's because, once you start the 'backward-flowing method'reversing the direction of the breathyou switch to autopilot. What do I mean by autopilot? Remember the Ram Dass saying: First, you do it, then it does you? It's an apt description. When you start RM, you focus on breathing in and out. Then, at a certain point in timeone I clearly describe how to recognizeyou reverse the direction of your breath. From that point forward, you no longer have to focus on breathing. An inner mechanismpart of the Kundalini processtakes over. Instead of you doing it, it does you. You don't have to worry about making choices; your body makes them for youlike an unseen ground controller that guides an aircraft to a safe landing.
Is RM Safe?
Is driving a car safe? Is airplane travel safe? Are prescription medicines safe? I can only say that it worked for me, and the many ancient practitioners who used The Secret of the Golden Flower as a guidebook. Over time, I've learned to live with Kundalini and marvel at its miraculous transformative healing powers.
RM isn't for Everyone
A good test for deciding whether RM is for you is evaluating the stakes. How much do you want to cleanse and purify your body, to repair neural disorders and the extremities those nerves serve? Do you have other options? How much time will it consume? What is the overall cost of trying RM as opposed to other options? If you don't feel good about the answers, then RM is not for you. |
When you read my book, you will see that it was my only option. A cosmic purpose led me to Kundalini. I'm still herethirty-five years later. How I got here in one piece is described in my book, Deciphering the Golden Flower One Secret at a Time. Purchase my book, in print or audio book form.
